PLAYING TIME FOR ACADEMY PUPILS

Playing  as part of their daily program  pupils find time to refresh and relax their  mind for the  next part of the day .Our  pupils love to  play and have  fun since their neighborhoods  cannot allow them to do so due to limited space with high population  in Kibera,thanks to KTDP

KTDP ACADEMY END YEAR  MEETINGS

Today was  a wonderful day at ktdp  learning went on as usual  in preparation of next year we did  admit  new students 2 in  Academy baby class,1 hairdressing class and 1 computer class.
Most of the students on sponsorship in private schools ,colleges and universities reported back to class this week except those in public schools due to the ongoing national wide teachers  strike

K.T.D.P students report for third term.

The August holidays are finally over and KTDP students have come back. The opening of schools in Kenya has been marred by anxiety because of the nationwide teachers strike that started on Monday. KTDP Academy however opened on Monday with all the staffs coming in on Monday and 90 pupils reporting for classes the following day.

Forty  vocational training which includes Hairdressing and beauty, Computer, and Tailoring projects reported on Monday.  More are expected to  report during the week.
       
Some of the hairdressing students started their exams today after the end of the six months training period.Tailoring students will be working hard for their government grade test exams to be held early December.
   
After a time of resting, We are looking forward for a successful third term.

VOCATIONAL PROJECT OUTING

Vocational Training students went for an outing at Arboretum grounds in Nairobi where they had a great time playing games and interacting with other projects. The Vocational  Training projects  will be taking a one week break and  return on 3rd September for the third term.

Success Story:Carol and Leah

Last week we were exited to visit two of our students who have set up a business after completing  their studies. Carol and Leah who have been students at KTDP Hairdressing school successfully completed their course on March 2012.

Carol had done the 6 months Hairdressing and 3 months beauty course, and her partner Leah had completed the 6 months hairdressing course. After the completion of their studies, they partnered together to start a Salon in the stalls at Kenyatta Market.

Kenyatta market is located near Kibera slums. The market is famous for its Nyama Choma(grilled meat),   hair salons and market stalls. It was a joy to see the lives of these young ladies transformed from being unskilled timid girls to self reliant people. While the Beauty industry in Kenya still does well and qualified people can find jobs,  we believe that setting up their own businesses gives better returns to these youth from Kibera and gives them the ability to become agents of the Transformation they encounter in KTDP  by creating jobs for other youths  from the slums.

We wish them the best and also take this opportunity to thank you for your support as you have contributed to the betterment of their lives.

Success Story: Vivian Kagoni completes her college.

 Vivian Kagoni smiles. It is a dream come true for the 21 year old.When she finished her secondary education she did not know how she could continue in her studies as her parents have  two other siblings they are educating. KTDP came to her rescue and under the sponsorship program paid  her college fees.

KTDP came to her rescue and sponsored her for college. She says" i had lost hope in pursuing higher education until the time you came in and gave me a smile by funding my studies, you gave me the chance to pursue the career that im so passionate about. Its hard to verbally express what im feeling,  but i know that it was through your assistance i saw the light at the end of the tunnel"

To KTDP she has this to say' " It  has been a pleasure to meet you. You own a large part of my heart. You have given me care, love and shown deep concern for me as an individual and also as a student. I feel your investment in me was worthwhile as i am now in a position to assist my family and also fulfill my development goals."

Vivian graduated with a diploma in hotel and catering management from Nairobi Aviation College. She hopes to join  the hotel industry and live out her dream.

Vocational Training

    We have been holding open forums for our Vocational Training students for the past week. On Friday our students were treated with a video show on the effects of Aids and other  STD'S.

    Later on the students held a discussion with the facilitators and responded to the film. The video shows are an effective way to communicate with the students as the graphical images are more likely to stick with them as opposed to oral presentations. We liaise  with other organizations to equip the students with life skills and knowledge.

    Our vision as an organization is 'transformation through you'. One of the ways we have been doing his is by providing training to young people. We hope that these trainings shall have a positive impact on lives of these young people, and that they too shall impact the society because of the change within them.

We held a meeting for the Vocational Training parents. We discussed many issues affecting our students and ways to improve our performance in the remaining part of the year.  The parents were positive on the progress we have achieved so far and offered us suggestions that  we will be working on in the course of the year.

The forum also helped us to know each other better. We hope  to come up with committee that will
help us work together with the community at large.
