Academy having lunch

Academy kids enjoying their lunch. Most of the families in Kibera can only afford one meal a day, often in the night with no breakfast or lunch. Therefore children may drop out of school and go to beg in the streets. Our academy kids are happy to be served with a balanced meal every lunch hour.

Phyllis and Benson fund raising

During their visit in Norway Phyllsi and Tello experienced the hard way of fund raising. Once a week they joined Helge traveling around to shops with boxes for fund raising. Children of Africa have boxes in many shops in Norway. Money from those boxes contributes around 70 percent of the cost of running KTDP. The other 30 percent comes from the project's income.

Nice time in Norway

It has been good to be in Norway during winter season. we have had a good time planning and focusing for the future of KTDP. I believe now we are well prepared for the year 2012, and do believe ktdp will be better in its service to the community next year than it has been this year. I look forward to going back to Kenya and together with the rest of the staffs on the ground start the process of implementing all those plans.
Thank you Kjetil and Beatrice for creating time in your busy schedule for this purpose.

Slum upgrade starts January 2012

Kenya Railways will start the Sh3.2 billion Kibera and Mukuru slum upgrade and relocation project in January to improve the safety of the Kenya-Uganda rail line and boost train speeds.

The project will see the rail firm secure a 60-metre reserve on the rail line sitting on the twin slums that will displace 9,000 families who reside or carry out business on the reserve.
The families will be accommodated in 3,192 single-room units that will act as homes and trading stalls that will be restricted from the rail line by nine metre high boundary wall that will run on both sides of the rail track.

The works are expected to start in January 2012. We want to facilitate use of faster trains and improve the safety of both rail and the slum dwellers,” said Kenya Railways Managing Director Nduva Muli.

KTDP Academy

New class in 2012
In particular, we see that children are vulnerable and need care. KTDP have our academy contributed to the care and education since 2003. From 2012 we are pleased to open a new class. 30 to 40 new students would fit in KTDP academy. We know this will mean a lot to these children and their families.
