Academy Project holds a parents meeting

Today, Academy project held a parents meeting. The teachers discussed the progress of the school so far, the challenges faced during the first half of this term, and laid out the activities for the remaining part of the term.

The parents raised concerns on the recent changes introduced by the ministry and discussed the way forward for the school.
The parents meetings are important forums for measuring the progress of the projects, and for us to receive feedback from the community. These  views are taken into account in the medium and long term plans of KTDP. We are happy that the community has been actively been involved in giving their input to the  program.

Its Friday

Friday is a special day for us. We usually take a break from  normal classroom learning to have fun and learn other things besides classwork. This week,   the Vocational Training students received visitors from MSF who facilitated a discussion on  HIV and Aids and the dangers of STI's.  The students usually enjoy this non formal sessions as they are able to discuss freely and have fun as they learn.

Meanwhile Academy students put on track suits and have fun time playing. Here they pose for a photograph before the session begins.

Sponsorship program takes up one more student.

Francis Paul is one of our  computer class graduates. He has been an assistant tutor at the K.T.D.P computer school for the last 6 months. Besides computers, Francis is interested in the accounting profession. Through L.T.P( Life Transformation Project). Francis is to be sponsored for CPA( Certified Public Accountant) at Strathmore University from July 2012.This will be a large leap towards his dream.

L.T.P is the social arm of K.T.D.P. The main areas of its operations are followup, social awareness, guidance and counseling, and sponsorship.

Most young people in urban slums like Kibera  are not able to further their studies after Primary school. Those who are lucky enough to finish their secondary education re unable to attain higher learning as it is even more expensive. So they engage in social vices like prostitution, get caught up in early marriages or  even join gangs.

K.T.D.P is proud to be involved in developing the human resource capacity of its staffs and the community at large. We believe that Education is the best investment that any organization can offer to a community. We hope that the sponsorship program shall continue to increase both in quality and the number of people we are able to help.

Tailoring Project

Tailoring students are very happy now that their machines were given thorough repair and maintenance. Now each one of them can have a machine to do their practice without any problem. By now they have gained enough knowledge and they are now using real materials for their practice lessons rather than brown papers. When the students are new, they start their practices using brown papers and when the trainer see the students have good knowledge and skills they start practising using materials. This prepare them for the real work when they are through with the course.

more students under sponsorship program

Joshua Mua is another new students taken under KTDP Sponsorship Program. Joshua is in class 8 and therefore preparing for his final exams in primary level. Joshua has been a good student in his primary and we believe he is going to perfom well in his final exams so he get himself a place in secondary level.

Welcome to Second term of the year

The projects which were on holiday last month opened last week after April holidays. During April we didnt have too many activities but now we have resumed our normal activities from last week. Last week it was so difficult to access kibera because of heavy rains, many kids were not able to resume because of the rains,we are hoping the rains will reduce and the second term of this year will go on well.
