KTDP Annual audit

The KTDP administration has been busy this month in preparation for the audit which will be conducted from Monday next week. Phylis Njuguna( Left) is overall incharge of the KTDP Finanacial reporting. She is charged with the supervision of funds recieved by KTDP and the preparation of final accounts. Our accounts must be audited in order to comply with requirements of the goverment and the Ngo council of Kenya . KTDP is proud to have consistently had audited accounts by registered professional auditors for the last 9 years . This has helped to ensure accountability of the funds we receive from our donors.
One of the challenges most donors have in Africa is the lack of accountability for the millions given to NGO's. We hope that our partners and donors shall continue to support the work in KTDP, resting in the assurance that we are utilizing the resources entrusted to us by you in a transparent manner.

KTDP Academy kids hit the runway

Kibera can be a depressing place and it is easy to give in to despair. The needs are so many and the means to meet them so few. The rate of HIV Aids prevalence is high, Typhoid, TB and other communicable diseases are rampart. Add the high levels of unemployment , the endemic poverty and the consequent rise in crime, and you have a very difficult environment. Our logo is a dancing child, a symbol of hope for the Kibera child and we do our best to give the children a feel of change at the KTDP centre.
However once in a while we come across some memorable event that makes us smile and feel the work is not in vain. Recently, we held the Academy annual graduation and here is a video of the young kids of KTDP Academy showing their budding catwalk skills.

Hairdressing Practical lessons.

Hairdressing project has started picking well from this month. The turnup of the students is improving. Students has started on with the practical lessons after a month of theory lessons and practising on dummy heads.Every student is required to get the cliets on their own within kibera to offer the services on the practical lessons they are covering. Each practical lessons require the students to have atleast 5clients who they give the service while the teacher watches, to ensure the students has gained the skills.

This help the students to have the confident to approach clients and know the way to handle them in a good way,so that by the time they are finishing their course they are fully ready to start their own business.

His dad is very happy his daughter is able to join high school and he appreciates everyone who contributes towards KTDP Sponsorship Program.

Beauty school

Beauty school is part of the Vocational training short courses. The goals of the project is to equip the young people of Kibera with the knowledge and skills to excell in the beauty industry in the country.

In spite of the recent economic hardships that have faced Kenya, the beauty industry has continued to grow.

The industry also has the advantage of not being capital intensive at the beginning, therefore young people in the slums can be able to start from where they are, even without being stationed in one particular place. The beautician can move from house to house offering their services .

Project meetings

Every First Friday of the month like today the project team meet to discuss the progress and performance of the project in the previous month. In this meeting they go through the plans and the budgets and compare them with actual performance, they also do variance analysis.

The challenges faced during the month are also discussed and how to handle them in the coming month. Those challenges that are beyond the project team members are forwarded to the administration, this is done in form of project Progress report. In this report they include the status of the projects, activities done in the month, activities for the next month, budgets and plans versus actual performance and any other thing that affected the projects.
